Located 8 miles from I-26. Sycamore Shoals, the site of the first permanent English settlement in North America outside the 13 original colonies, is also the site of the historic Muster of the Overmountain Men during the American Revolution. The Transylvania Purchase, the largest private real estate transaction in our nation’s history, took place here between the Cherokee and European settlers. The Park’s Visitors Center houses an interpretive facility with historic displays, museum, theater, gift shop and bookstore. The Park is open Mon.-Sat. 8a.m.-4:30p.m. and Sun. 1p.m.-4:30p.m.
